This year Ramadan coincided with the fruit abundance season. We consulted about how to consume fruits for Ramadan to Dietician and Health Consultant of Derindere Hospital, Meltem Seniz Toksoy.

Prevent Sweet Cravings with Mulberry Desert

Mulberry is Vitamin C depot and a natural remedy for smoking habit. It contains lots of fiber and friend of intestine, effective on decreasing blood lipids and so protects heart and purifies skin. Because of high sugar limit it is not recommended to diabetics patients. If you are watching your weight, limit yourself with 5-6 maximum.

For a healthy recipe, boil mulberry inside milk and add cinnamon and cacao than put it into fridge. If you don’t have certain disease you can eat after iftar 4 or 5 times in a week.

Peach and Apricot can handle costiveness together

Especially apricot should be your first choice to stop costiveness thanks to its fiber structure and high level of water. Your stomach and ulcer disease complaints will reduce if you eat 3 or 4 apricots with cloves in sahoor. It has of the strongest antioxidants and anti-embolism agent; lycopene. People who has digestion problems shouldn’t consume peach too many because it may cause it even though it is good for kidneys.

We have a good alternative for junk food with low sugar, low calorie and high fiber that will satisfy your desert cravings. It helps you to reduce stress because it excretes serotonin hormone also known as happiness hormone. If you think deserts are irresistible you can make a health desert with mixing strawberries with yogurt and a spoon of honey.

Water Melons may not be as innocent as you think
It contains lots of Vitamin c and water and so makes digestion easier and runs intestines. If you consume it right after iftar your blood sugar will dramatically rise and thus you will feel exhausted. We recommend you to consume it between iftar and sahoor, remember an ideal portion should be as big as your hand.
